• BM5D: “Probably more of a feel thing. I went from 87 to 63 last season, and I can say for sure you feel faster which can have the effect of promoting a smoother swing. With an 87 gram shaft, it felt like hard work late in the round to put a good swing on the driver. This led me to swing too hard and hit balls where the bears live. The lighter shaft for me promotes a smoother, faster swing rather than a harder swing if that makes sense.”
• Z1ggy16: “According to a recent TXG podcast, they think it’s more due to Tiger aging and probably starting to lose a little speed with heavier shafts. Going lighter could help get some speed back and maybe improve flight a little bit. Unless the Trackman in the past few weeks has been off, I noticed Tiger only getting mid 160’s ball speed when hitting his 3w. Could have been intentional but I’ve seen him in the 170s before. Maybe the old numbers were juiced up a little bit, who knows.”
