LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Forty-eight student-athletes from 38 programs were selected to the 2018 NFCA High School All-American teams, announced the association on Monday afternoon.

Fifteen different institutions were represented on the first team with Donovan Catholic High School garnering two accolades. Overall, Donovan Catholic topped all programs with four all-america selections. Sheldon High School (Sacramento, Calif.) and Mt St. Dominic Academy (Caldwell, N.J.) had three honorees, while Spain Park High School (Hoover, Ala.), Sandra Day O’Connor High School (Phoenix, Az.) and Daphne (Ala.) High School each had two representatives.

2018 All-Americans

The NFCA High School All-America teams are selected by a committee of member head coaches from the pool of players who earned first-team All-Region recognition in the five high school regions. The three 16-member squads had representation from 19 different states.

Additionally, Jackson Christian (Tenn.) High School’s Sophie Dunavant was selected Diamond Catcher / NFCA of the Year and Rachel Hammons from Bourgade Catholic High School (Phoenix, Az.) was named the New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe Award recipient.

Headlining the first team is 2018 National Gatorade Player of the Year, Megan Faraimo, of Cathedral Catholic High School (San Diego, Calif.), along with state Gatorade Players of the Year- East Carter High School’s Montana Fouts (Ky.), James Madison High School’s Alex Echazareta (Va.), Topeka-Seaman High School’s Lauren Mills (Kan.) and New Palestine High School’s Ashley Prange (Ind.)

Faraimo, Fouts, Echazareta, Clovis High School’s (Calif.) Danielle Lung and Donovan Catholic’s Lindsay Nelson make up the pitching selections. Headed to UCLA in the fall, Faraimo (26-3, 0.22 ERA), the CIF Player of the Year, twirled 18 shutouts and struck out 405 batters to just eight walks in 188.1 innings of work. Additionally, the senior homered seven times and knocked in 22 runs. Fouts (37-1, 0.09 ERA),  a senior, surrendered just nine runs, three earned, in 232.1 innings. She fanned 481 batters and recorded 31 shutouts. The Alabama commit was also an offensive force, hitting .495 with19 doubles, 12 long balls and 71 RBI.

Echazareta (24-0, 0.60 ERA) guided James Madison to its second straight 6A state title and a No. 2 ranking in the final USA Today Sports/NFCA High School Super 25. Along with posting perfect record, the junior hurler tossed 16 shutouts with 237 strikeouts in 141 innings. Additionally, she hit .495 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI. Lung (25-0, 0.76 ERA), a Fresno State signee, was named the conference player of the year after going undefeated in the circle with 13 shutouts, 270 strikeouts and a .131 batting average against. Nelson (23-1, 0.81 ERA) held her opposition to a .140 batting average and struck out 182 batters.

Garnering the nods as first-team catcher are Shelby Grimm of Chesterton High School (Ind.) and Diamond Catcher recipient, Dunavant. Grimm, who is headed to Notre Dame in the fall, hit .468 with 44 hits, eight doubles, 32 runs, 25 RBI and was 26-of-28 on the base paths. The senior backstop posted a .991 fielding percentage and threw out 12 of 25 base stealers. Dunavant, a senior headed to Freed-Hardeman, hit .537 with 44 hits, 10 doubles, 13 home runs, 35 RBI, 36 runs and a 1.183 slugging percentage. She committed just one error, contributing to her .995 fielding percentage.

Donovan Catholic’s Karina Gaskins and Mills make up the first-team duo at first base. Gaskins, a sophomore, batted .602 with 50 hits, 10 doubles, 18 round trippers and 67 RBI, while posting a 1.373 slugging percentage and .646 on-base percentage. Mills, the Centennial League and All-City Player of the Year, hit nearly .700 (.696) with eight doubles, 15 home runs and 60 RBI. The senior and Wichita State signee registered a 1.642 slugging percentage and a .825 on-base percentage. She walked 39 times, struck out just three and posted a .992 fielding percentage, making just one miscue at second base.

Lincoln Southwest’s (Neb.) Emma Kauf in the first-team second baseman. The first-team All-Nebraska selection batted .603 with 85 hits, 18 doubles, 19 home runs, 79 runs scored and 70 RBI. Her long balls and runs scored set single-season state marks. She owned a 1.149 slugging percentage, .642 on-base percentage and was a perfect 16-for-16 stealing bases.

Joley Mitchell of Rose Bud High School (Ark.) collected the first-team honors at third base. The junior hit .659 (56-for-85) with 24 home runs, 71 RBI and 82 runs scored, an Arkansas single-season record. She produced a 1.658 slugging percentage, while drawing 36 free passes, which contributed to her .766 on-base percentage. She was 33-for-34 in stolen bases, while posting a .975 (2 errors) field percentage at the hot corner.

A pair of shortstops, New Palestine’s Ashley Prange and Sandra Day O’Connor’s Grace Lyons share first-team recognition. Prange, a senior headed to Ohio State in the fall, hit .589, while scoring 51 times and knocking in 70. She belted 17 home runs and owned a 1.312 slugging percentage and left the program as Indiana’s all-time home run leader with 46. Lyons, an Oklahoma signee, hit .642 with 15 doubles, 47 runs, 34 RBI and a 1.185 slugging percentage. She only struck out twice and recorded a .687 on-base percentage.

Rounding out the first team is a trio of outfielders, Hammons, Alexas Raphael of Mt. St. Dominic and Spain Park’s Maddie Majors. Hammons, a senior, batted .722 with 65 hits, 16 doubles, 10 triples and 62 runs scored. The Grand Canyon signee knocked in 40, registered a 1.255 slugging percentage and swiped 44 bases in 46 attempts. Raphael batted .567, scored 52 times and was a perfect 41-for-41 on the base paths. Majors, a junior, hit .487 with 53 runs scored, 16 doubles, nine home runs and 47 RBI. She garnered numerous post-season honors, including All State and Super All-State recognition.
