On a night where AEW Dynamite aired two hours later than usual due to NBA basketball on TNT, the show drew its normal viewership and the exact same 18-49 demo rating as the previous week.
Last night’s Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite averaged 775,000 viewers on TNT, down 3.8 percent from last week. The rating in the 18-49 demo was unchanged at a 0.32.
NXT on the USA Network, running unopposed, averaged 698,000 viewers. That’s down 8.9 percent from last week. NXT also drew the same 0.19 rating in the 18-49 demo as it did last week.
Dynamite and NXT were running against basketball games that drew far more viewership than either wrestling show. The early game on TNT averaged 2.003 million viewers and a 0.80 rating in the 18-49 demo, while the late game on ESPN drew 1.215 million viewers and a 0.52 rating in 18-49. NXT and the early part of Dynamite also faced competition from a college football game on ESPN that averaged 1.271 million viewers with a 0.35 demo rating.
The basketball games were the top two ranked shows on the cable charts in 18-49 and college football was fourth. Dynamite finished fifth and NXT finished 40th.
As usual, NXT lost every demo except for people over 50. NXT had a 0.36 to 0.28 advantage over Dynamite in that category. Dynamite’s strongest demo was men 18-49, where the show had a 0.44 rating and finished fourth on cable behind the NBA and college football games. Dynamite more than tripled NXT in males 12-34. Dynamite drew a 0.27 rating in that category to NXT’s 0.08.
Year-over-year, NXT was down 16 percent in viewers and 13.6 percent in the demo. Dynamite did not have a show this week last year as Wednesday fell on Christmas Day.
