According to a new report by Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, several factors have lead to Neville’s current unhappiness in WWE, and they date back to January of this year. The report notes Neville has been “miserable” in WWE since the beginning of 2017, and has since been frustrated by the direction of his character, the lack of pay-offs, and the grueling lifestyle of being on the road with WWE. The straw which broke the camels back appeared to be Neville learning two weeks ago that he was scheduled to lose to Enzo Amore on Raw, so he decided not to work that night.

As noted, Neville was also very frustrated with his match against Austin Aries being moved to the WrestleMania Kickoff show, and the bout being entirely left off the ‘Mania DVD, costing him coveted royalties.

The report adds that while Neville might have a lucrative future in companies like Ring of Honor and/or New Japan, his future in WWE, or an eventual return if he is released, might be difficult, as Vince McMahon views walking out on WWE as “the kiss of death.” Barrasso cited CM Punk and his infamous post-Royal Rumble WWE walkout as an example of a talent who angered Vince McMahon, possibly beyond reparation.
