EU leaders wasted no time in rejecting Theresa May’s call to reopen talks on the Brexit divorce deal after Parliament voted in favour of scrapping the Irish backstop on Tuesday night.
MPs supported an amendment by Sir Graham Brady, the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, which instructed the Prime Minister to seek "alternative arrangements" on the Irish border instead of agreeing to the backstop.
The result is the latest sign that there can be little hope of Mrs May passing her deal through the House of Commons unless the backstop is substantially changed or removed altogether.
