It’s official. Los Angeles now figures on the fashion map as a city with more to offer than just plastic and starlets. The Council of Fashion Designers of America has decided to acknowledge the growing West Coast fashion industry and hold its first event in Los Angeles. The West Coast fashionista contingency counts for 29 of the group’s 273 members.

CFDA executive director Peter Arnold said: “Magda Berliner, Chrome Hearts, Erica Courtney, Trina Turk – they’re part of a whole different generation of designers. They’re not coming to New York anymore. Their strategy is to stay in LA and succeed there. The committee realised it’s not just a group of newer talent in New York. LA is the best example of where people are growing and succeeding.”
