Two of our favorite British solo acts have teamed up to give us a dreamy new track to close out the summer with.

Rapper M.I.A. shared “Freedun” the fist single off her forthcoming album, AIM, on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show on Thursday, which features an unexpected treat: vocals by former One Direction crooner (and Mr. Gigi Hadid), Zayn Malik.

With rhymes like, “History is just a competition/ Do you wanna sign my petition,” M.I.A. is back with another pop masterpiece with a slightly political edge. Malik contributes to auto-tuned chorus for the track, singing, “All the stars are still shining/ But you’re the only one I see/ I can feel when your heart beats, yeah/ But you can’t can’t keep your eyes off me,” over the electronic backing.

In the interview with Mac, M.I.A. describes the track as “floaty,” adding that she had to put her “aggressive brain to bed on this one.”

“It was always sort of like too mainstream sounding for me. If I was going to have a collaboration and have someone like Zayn, this is like the perfect song,” she went on to say. “You know, it sort of takes me out of my comfort zone, but kind of takes him out of his a little bit as well.”

M.I.A.’s fifth studio album, AIM, is scheduled to drop on September 9th.
