Speaking to our colleagues at L’Équipe, 33 year old central midfielder Mounir Obbadi confirmed that he will be joining OGC Nice upon his return from the African Cup of Nations in Gabon for Morocco.

“It is a relief. Alongside my wife and my children, I would like to thank the Lille representatives for their understanding and support during these difficult weeks but also my new advisors Yacine Ayad and Warsame Egal, who did what was necessary to contribute to offering me a new footballing challenge that is exciting but that is also in line with what my loved ones want. I am proud of the confidence that Nice have put in me and particularly Julien Fournier, who understood the importance for me to play at AFCON with my country despite this turning point for my career but also for my loved-ones.”

Obbadi’s family suffered a robbery experience in September that left them emotionally scarred, hence the relief on the part of the former Monaco man.

Obbadi will join Nice for nothing, after he reached a contract termination agreement with Les Dogues.
