Earlier this week, WWE announced that there will be a rematch between Becky Lynch and Asuka at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view in January. Asuka won a TLC match at the WWE event of the same name earlier this month to win the title, but “The Man” was set to receive a rematch for her championship. Interestingly, WWE made the match official during an episode of this week’s edition of Main Event. It looked like the match would definitely be taking place at the show, but recently, WWE pulled the title match from the show. WWE’s storyline reason for removing the match from the lineup had to do with Paige attempting to book the match before she was removed from her position as SmackDown General Manager this past Tuesday night.
What is the actual reason behind WWE suddenly scrapping the match. An update has just been provided by Post Wrestling’s John Pollock. He says that the company made the decision to change the card for the Royal Rumble around not too long ago, likely as part of an ongoing “shake up” from the McMahon family. Pollock notes that the match was scrapped on Tuesday, but the updated information never reached the studio that produces Main Event, which meant that they were still going by the old data. It is unclear if WWE will still be doing the match at the Rumble but announcing it on a later date, or if the company is putting together a different women’s title match for the show. The Royal Rumble airs on the WWE Network on January 27th.

Asuka vs Becky Lynch at the Rumble was the plan and was going to be announced on SmackDown. It was decided Tuesday that the Rumble card would be re-evaluated and the match may or may not happen, but the studio had the old information and used it for Main Event this week

Impact Wrestling announced yesterday that they will be leaving Pop TV in just a few more weeks. New episodes of Impact will begin airing on the Pursuit Channel every Friday night at 10pm ET starting on January 11th. Now that Pop TV won’t have any wrestling programming in 2019, could another promotion take Impact’s current spot? According to PWInsider, Aro Lucha is not expected to be that promotion. Commercials for Aro Lucha have been airing during Impact lately, but that appears to be part of a deal between Impact’s parent company Anthem and Aro Lucha’s Aroluxe. Anthem has been making payments to Aroluxe in order to buy out their ownership percentage in Impact, and the commercials for Aro Lucha were added by Impact in order to help get the promotion off the ground, but they do not necessarily mean that the show is coming to Pop TV.
