AS Monaco have continued their high turnover of players this summer with the signing of 21-year-old Benjamin Henrichs. Henrichs, a product of Bayer Leverkusen’s famed academy, has signed on with Les Monégasques until 2023 for a reported €20m fee.

Leverkusen was Henrich’s home throughout all of his professional football career up until this move. In Western Germany the young defender was honed in a number of different areas, resulting in an incredibly well-rounded player capable of playing in a number of positions.
Henrichs frequently played in the center of the park during his time in Leverkusen’s academy, but has since transitioned to the flanks of defence. Used predominantly as a right-back last season, Henrichs emulates the recently departed Fabinho due in part to his dribbling, passing, and tackling abilities.
The signing of young, talented players like Henrichs has become a staple of Monaco’s transfer policy, and as such the club and its staff were happy to secure the signature of such a promising 21-year-old. The Vice President of AS Monaco, Vadim Vasilyev, described Henrichs as a “talented defender who has great experience,” later declaring, “his arrival will improve the quality of our group. I’m certain that he’ll play a part in the good results of the team.”
Monaco’s newest signing shares this excitement, as was made evident through the club’s official press release. In the announcement, Henrichs contributed a few words, adding, “I’m going to do whatever it takes to adapt quickly and to help the team record numerous victories. I’m excited to work with the staff and all my new teammates.”
