A fund set up by the family and friends of Mollie Tibbetts, the University of Iowa student who disappeared aftergoing for a jog two weeks ago, has raised $172,000 to bring the missing woman home safe.

“We believe that Mollie is still alive and if someone has abducted her, we are pleading with you to please release her,” Laura Calderwood, Mollie’s mother, said at a press conference Thursday.

Calderwood said the family has partnered with Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa to help facilitate the process of receiving information anonymously that could be used to pay for her release or information that would lead to her location. The fund has raised $172,000 as of Thursday morning.

Calderwood said the money would be paid out as soon as Mollie is safely home.

Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at (800) 452-1111. Tips can also be submitted online via the Crime Stoppers website. Tips submitted through Crime Stoppers are anonymous, Calderwood said.

“It is our greatest hope that if someone has her that they would just release her and claim that money that we have raised for her freedom,” Calderwood said.

Rob Tibbetts, Mollie’s father, was asked at the press conference how the family is dealing with the woman’s disappearance. He said the family was holding up just fine and was setting their personal feelings aside.

“This is a fight for our daughter,” he said. He also urged anyone with information to come forward, saying no information was irrelevant or trivial.

News of the reward comes after a report that Mollie may have been seen at a truck stop in Missouri last week.

KMBC reported that the Kearney, Missouri police department passed the information on to Iowa authorities investigating Tibbetts’ disappearance after a possible sighting of someone who resembled the missing woman. The report turned out to be unsubstantiated, according to The Associated Press.

Mollie was dog sitting at her boyfriend’s home in Brooklyn, Iowa, the night she went for a jog and disappeared. She was reported missing the next day when she didn’t show up for work.

Officials investigating the case in Iowa have investigated hundreds of leads and have said that no possibilities are being ruled out. However, authorities said they have not identified a reason for her disappearance.
