On a recent edition of Taking Smack, Erick Rowan showed up and gave an unsettling interview. During the interview, Erick Rowan presented Renee Young with a balloon, which he eventually decided to pop before exiting. He also revealed his newest sheep mask, but this one had some traditional clown makeup printed on it. While it seems that WWE has no major plans to push either Rowan or Luke Harper anytime soon, this may be setting up a change for Rowan. The traditional Wyatt Family sheep mask wearing Erick Rowan may be getting replaced with a new spooky gimmick.
At some of Smackdown’s live events, Erick Rowan has come down to the ring with a new evil clown gimmick. The balloons and sheep mask from Talking Smack are all part of the getup for his new character. The Wrestling Observer notes that Rowan apparently blows up the balloons himself before letting them fly towards his opponents. No word on how popular the gimmick has been received at live events, but the Talking Smack appearance certainly seems to be setting up the arrival of this new clown version of Erick Rowan. Expect to see a change with Rowan as early as this Sunday night at the Backlash pay-per-view.
Erick Rowan has definitely struggled a bit over his WWE career. Whether it’s been injuries, or just being looked at as a weak wrestler, he has never really managed to impress anybody in WWE. He has spent the majority of his main roster career in the background as a member of the Wyatt Family. After returning from an injury after Wrestlemania, he was realigned with Bray Wyatt, but that ended when the latter was moved to Raw. Hopefully Rowan will be able to stand out with the creation of this new character that he’s been testing out. Erick Rowan will take on former Wyatt Family member Luke Harper this weekend at Backlash.
