Who were the best of the Aussie bunch in Super Rugby last weekend? 

1. James Slipper

Slipper was a standout in his 100th match, in Cape Town. The 28-year-old is the anchor of the Reds’ scrum and he is back to some of his best scrummaging form, finally injury-free after a frustrating 2017. It’s a sight plenty of Reds and Wallabies fans will be pleased to see.

2. Anaru Rangi

Rangi has stepped up in Jordan Uelese’s absence, showing the depth the Rebels have. He was combative against the Sharks and though there were some lineout mixups, he showed spark in attack, scoring a try.

3. Jermaine Ainsley

The Rebels have a dynamic front row and Ainsley showed that last Friday night, making some positive breaks. Doing his June Series chances no harm right now.

4.Izack Rodda

Rodda is starting to look every bit like a Test rugby regular as he makes his stamp on the Reds outfit and Super Rugby. In a relatively young side, he is shouldering plenty of responsibility and is taking it in his stride. Expect to see him back in this lineup plenty of times this season.

5. Adam Coleman

Coleman’s solid rise continues and he was decisive against the Sharks, in a game where his team needed to show their ability to rebound.

6. Angus Scott-Young

The Reds seem to be oozing young talent in their forward pack, especially, and Scott-Young’s Super Rugby trajectory is one of the most promising. The flanker certainly doesn’t hide away from the tough stuff, finishing with 11 tackles on a difficult night in Cape Town.

7. Adam Korczyk

Korczyk is starting to truly deliver on the promise many have seen in him, since a standout U20s campaign. Injury-free the openside is a huge threat for the Reds and was one of their best in South Africa, finishing with 13 tackles and two turnovers.

8. Caleb Timu

Timu has caught Michael Cheika’s eye this season and it’s no wonder why. He is becoming a critical plank in Brad Thorn’s side, keeping Scott Higginbotham out of a starting spot. An immense 13 tackles in Cape Town, along with a try and 75 run metres from 10 carries would only be helping his cause.

9. Will Genia

Genia is in vintage form this season and once again his crisp delivery was critical for the Rebels in Melbourne. Great signs for the Wallabies come June.

10. Jack Debreczeni

It’s hard to believe how far Debreczeni has rebounded after effectively being released by the Rebels at the end of last season. The flyhalf looks comfortable outside of Genia and that’s only been good for the Rebels as well.

11. Marika Koroibete

Koroibete had a slow start to the year, battling injuries, but the speedster looks like returning to his best form after a standout performance against the Sharks. He finished with 99 run metres off 10 carries in Melbourne and it looks like it will only be a matter of time before he finds the try line again.

12. Billy Meakes

Meakes’ first start of the season, after a team reshuffle, and he made the most of it. Scored a nice try and made 65 metres in attack. Took his chance with both hands and should have another crack against the Hurricanes.

13. Samu Kerevi 

Kerevi looked right at home in Cape Town, as one of the Reds’ most influential against the odds. Still needs more accuracy in defence but is starting to once again provide the spark Queensland needs to complement a formidable forward pack.

14. Filipo Daugunu

Daugunu is growing with every game he plays and a super try against the Stormers only served to reinforce his potential.

15. Jack Maddocks

Maddocks is going from strength to strength in Melbourne and a return to fullback proved no issue for the youngster, who continues to keep himself on Michael Cheika’s radar in a star-studded Rebels team.
