Speaking following the 6-1 drubbing at the hands of FC Barcelona, PSG right-back Thomas Meunier gave some post-match thoughts to the press.

“There were several turning points. At 3-1, we had two chances one vs one which we did not take. Then we made unacceptable mistakes. We gave them the match from the beginning. It is almost freaky. We can only be angry at ourselves. There was a bit of apprehension. Even when we had the ball, we did not know what to do with it. For the rest of it, we lifted our heads in the second half with more desire. Which we had in part. The goals that Barcelona scored were unacceptable. We need to be clear. There is a funeral atmosphere. You can qualify by losing 5-1 and the goal that we absolutely should not have conceded we conceded.”

“In history nobody has done something like this. We should have approached the game in a more professional way. That is where we see that we are still missing a small thing at PSG to reach the level of Bayern Munich or Barcelona. We lost our heads when we say the Catalan enthusiasm. We were never able to turn the situation around in the long-term. We prepared ourselves well. It is very difficult to come up with an explanation. We allowed ourselves to be victimised. It was a weird game. The worst thing was the way it happened. We fell to a team with immense quality, we were not worthy of PSG.”
