TALLAHASSEE, FL — A Florida Uber driver accused of refusing to drop off a rider was arrested on kidnapping charges and the rider ended up jumping out of the window while the car was still moving, according to a police report.

According to the report, a Tallahassee police officer was called to the intersection of North Magnolia Drive and Miccosukee Road early Wednesday morning after a 911 call where a woman could be heard in the background screaming “help me.” The report says the responding officer found the woman in a Walgreens parking lot.

Her white pants had rips in both knees, blood was soaking through the fabric, and she had a cut on her foot and apparent scrapes on her hands, the report says.

Initially, police say the victim was having trouble telling authorities what happened “due to her being intoxicated,” the report says. She later told police that earlier in the night, she was at an event and a male friend had requested an Uber for her.

The woman showed the officer the Uber app displaying the driver’s name, and police were able to identify the car was registered to Destiny Green, 30, of Tallahassee, the report says.

The woman asked Green to take her to her house on Airport Drive and while they were en route, she asked to be dropped off at an apartment complex on Madison Street since they were close, the report says. Green apparently asked if she could drive around the block to finish listening to a song and the passenger agreed, the report says.

While driving around the block, Green was stopped by Florida State University Police. During the stop, the report says, Green apparently asked the woman to put her hand on the center console and hold it down. She “found this weird,” police say, but did as she asked, but after FSU police left, she felt uncomfortable and asked Green to drop her off, but she refused.

The woman continued to insist that Green let her out of the car and she continued to refuse, saying at one point she was going to take the woman to the hospital, according to the report. It says the passenger not only never asked to go the the hospital, but had no reason to seek medical attention.

The woman “felt in fear for her life and could not find the locks for the back door,” the report says. She called a friend via FaceTime to let her know what was happening, then rolled down the window and held down the button before jumping out while the car was moving. She then ran to the Walgreens parking lot.

Police say they reviewed a Snapchat video from the woman’s phone showing Green as the driver, and authorities also reviewed her call log that shows she FaceTimed her friend. Police also noted that the locks to the back door could be difficult to locate in a panicked state.

Green was arrested at her home and charged with kidnapping to facilitate a felony and false imprisonment.

“What this rider reported is deeply troubling,” an Uber spokesperson told Patch. “We have removed the driver from the app and stand ready to support the police investigation.”
