There has been some controversy coming out of this past weekend’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony at the Barclays Center, resulting in a few conflicting stories being circulated.

It was originally reported by PWInsider.com that a member of the WWE creative team, Robert Evans, was fired at the ceremony because he produced Bret Hart and Natalya’s speech, which committed the cardinal sin of referring to Vince McMahon by name.

The new story is that Evans actually quit the company before he could be fired. The former Ring of Honor and Chikara wrestler/manager, who worked under the name RD Evans, simply stated “I quit WWE” on his official Twitter account.

The incident was immediately mentioned during Degeneration X’s WWE Hall of Fame induction speech later in the same night, when each member repeated said Vince McMahon’s name in jest. At the time it seemed like the group was poking fun at their boss, but in retrospect the stunt almost seems cruel that they would publicly take shots at a guy who just lost his job for such a ridiculous reason.
