London – Designer Tom Ford is partnering with online giant Net-a-Porter to sell
his ready-to-wear women’s from July and men’s collection on Mr Porter from
September.
Ford currently sells his collections via his own boutiques, selected
department stores, and his own e-commerce site, tomford.com, which only
ships in the US, this partnership with Net-a-Porter marks the first online
retailer to sell his ready-to-wear collections.
Net-a-Porter has already added Ford to its designer roster online,
stating that the “edit” of the designer’s autumn/winter 2015 collection
will launch July 15 and customers can register for updates to buy as soon
as available. The edit will include “everything from flawless leather goods
and accessories, to gowns and chic tailoring” as well as pieces from the
designer’s cosmetics and fragrance collections.
Mr Porter will add Ford’s menswear ready-to-wear collection of
“immaculately tailored suits, plush cashmere and refined accessories” to
the site on September 1.
“Net-a-porter is extremely strong in selling designer merchandise
online and obviously Tom Ford ready-to-wear online, bags and shoes is a
massive draw for our customer,” Sarah Rutson, Net-a-porter’s vice president
of global buying told WWD. “We’ve got a proven track record of selling at
this level, especially brands that either have very limited e-commerce
themselves or no e-commerce.”

This is the latest exclusive collaboration Net-a-Porter has announced,
earlier this year it launched Chanel’s fine jewellery collection ‘Coco
Crush,’ marking the first time the French fashion house had sold online.
